In early 2023, extensive areas of sea buckthorn, covering approximately 3,500 m², were cleared from the dune grassland along the shore-side holes bordering Murlough Beach. This area was restored to its natural dune landscape, following guidelines from Murlough Nature Reserve.
By preventing the spread of sea buckthorn, we have enabled the establishment of healthy grasslands and scrub, which will support increased biodiversity and restore native habitats. This project has opened up new sections of natural dune land, fostering the hope that these areas will flourish further and encourage the return of native species to their natural habitats.
